Brushstroke

Zhuoyu has melded elements of calligraphy into its Brushstroke furniture series. Calligraphy and tea are core to inner cultivation practiced in Eastern philosophy. Both aspire to a tranquil state of mind be achieved by nourishing the spirit.

Design Inspiration

Wang Xizhi is the undisputed greatest calligrapher in Chinese history. Zhuoyu has blended the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi with its tearoom furniture.

It is said that Wang Xizhi was asked by the emperor to write blessings on parchment to then be engraved in wood. Wang’s brushwork was so powerful that when the parchment was lifted, his brushstroke had penetrated one third of the wood surface.

Materials and Craftsmanship

Brushstroke is made from elm and bamboo. The exquisite craftsmanship can be seen in the detailed joinery and the thickness of the solid wood used in the table.
